Who needs this qualification?

Our company has trained and successfully certificated all types of technicians from de-pollution, scrap yards, tyre and exhaust centres, bus and train travel, air craft, military tanks, tractors and earth movers – the list goes on. If you are working or intending to break into any vehicle ac system, however this vehicle is propelled you must be qualified.

The City & Guilds 7543-01 Certificate in Mobile Vehicle Air Conditioning Systems is a course broken down into modules which takes place over 1 day:

  • Ensure motor vehicle is immobilised before working on it.
  • Follow health and safety requirements, select appropriate PPE and follow good working practice.
  • Prepare vehicle for recovery.
  • Identify refrigerant and difference between service ports.
  • Select your service equipment.
  • Correctly recover refrigerant R134a from vehicle making sure that the gauges reach Zero or Negative Bar.
  • Record static pressures, procedures, gauge readings before and after recovery.
  • Transfer correctly a minimum of 300g of R134a from source cylinder.
  • Complete full activity report.
  • Answer theory questions.Please do not worry as full training will be given prior to the assessment.

The 7543-01 has been designed to provide the essential practical knowledge in automotive air conditioning fundamentals and refrigerant handling.

This enables technicians carry out servicing procedures, component identification, leak checking and refrigerant handling in a professional, safe and legal manner.

This unit is recognised by the UK Government as exceeding the minimum requirements of European Commission Directive 307/2008.

This regulation requires that persons handling fluorinated gases must be appropriately trained and possess a certificate attesting to the fact.

This unit can be taken on its own! It also ensures technicians; employers and employees meet their duty of care under COSHH regulations.

On successful completion of practical and verbal assessments you will obtain an accredited City & Guilds 7543-01 certificate in Mobile Vehicle Air Conditioning and Refrigerant Handling.

Duration: 1 day (From £350) The Course is delivered and completed during a 1 day period depending on your competence.

Additional to the 7543-01 Course detailed above:

Although 7543-01 is the basic legal minimum requirement qualification required for refrigerant handling, the City & Guilds course does not include the following practical attributes for mobile air conditioning:- 

  • Vacuum,
  • Charging,
  • Leak testing procedures,
  • Basic fault finding and
  • System operation status after charging
  • Pressure testing with OFN
  • Access to our three bespoke training simulators

A detailed hands on practical real world demonstration and operation can be added to the basic course for only an additional £200 per candidate. We believe this additional course is essential if you intend to start your own business and when you leave here you will be competent to carry out vehicle Air Conditioning system servicing immediately. This will give you more thorough understanding of the process outlined in the 7543-01 course.

Tools required for this course and to carry out car air-conditioning service procedures can be purchased from ourselves from as little as £750 depending on stock, although we may recommend alternatives around £1000 plus.  The cost will depend on the tools being chosen whether it be used, refurbished or new.  Whichever these may be, they will be of serviceable quality and at trade prices.  We will not sell tools to anyone that has not been part of one of our courses.
